17 May 2018
Dear West View family
Thank you for the feedback I’ve received from the first week of our Tithe Month Series “Earn all you can”. John Wesley’s first rule for money has gotten many thinking about what Jesus meant when he invited us to “use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourself” (Luke 16:9). This Sunday we’ll be exploring Wesley’s second rule: “Save all you can”.
DISCOVER YOUR TRUE MISSION THROUGH EXPLORING THE STORY OF ESTHER
You are called by God to a unique Mission. But you also have a shadow mission. Your Shadow Mission is an imposter mission that threatens your true mission, the highest purpose to which God calls you. Join us this June as we study four characters in the book of Esther to see what we can learn from them about faithfully living into our true mission, and avoiding our shadow mission. In order to prepare for this series, read the entire book of Esther in one sitting, as if you were reading a short story. It’s a gripping story of love and palace intrigue in the context of a potential genocide.
ESTHER MOVIE NIGHT
Join us on Tuesday 29 May @ 18h30. Please bring a plate of eats to share with your table before the movie starts at 7pm when we will be screening a movie on the book of Esther. This will help familiarise you with the characters, and their fascinating story before we enter into this challenging preaching series.
COSY SUNDAYS: PYJAMA NIGHT
West View is the place to keep warm on Sunday evenings this winter. We’ll be serving hot chocolate indoors from 17h30, and again after the service. To launch our “Cosy Sundays”, we’re inviting those worshipping at 6pm to wear your PJ’s and slippers to church on Sunday 27th May. Bring your blanket to sit under during the service…Rumour has it the preacher himself will be in pyjamas!
CHANNELS FOR GIVING AT WEST VIEW
There are three channels through which you can support God’s work at West View – EFT/direct debit, Snapscan, and cash offerings. 80% of tithes and offerings are made by EFT or direct debit. This is the preferred channel, as it incurs no bank charges. Don’t forget the third channel for your offerings: Snapscan. Whilst this channel does incur charges, they are lower than cash deposit charges, and many who don’t carry cash with them prefer to use this during the Sunday offering time in worship.
SYNOD 2018 IN MAFIKENG
Siphiwe, Lara Dickson, Penny Wellington and I will be attending the Limpopo District Synod, being held in Mafikeng. Please join me in praying for the Holy Spirit to guide and bless our Synod as we meet to worship, to celebrate, and to discern God’s future for us as a District.
In the service of Christ
